Fellow Nittany Lions:
Sometime within the past 14 years, Penn State's singing ambassadors, the Penn State Singing Lions have brought a lion's share of pride to your area in a performance sponsored by your local chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association. In fact, this dynamic show choir has performed in no less than 42 local alumni chapters in at least 12 states. Over the years the group has been a valuable recruiting tool while members of the group learn valuable lessons about teamwork, professionalism, self-confidence, discipline and showmanship.
This past season, the Singing Lions performed for the Delaware chapter of the Alumni Association. The event was a reception the chapter hosted for area high school students who were considering accepting an offer of admission to Penn State. Following the show, the prospective Lion cubs had an opportunity to talk with Singing Lions who were majoring in many different fields. On April 23, 1999 the Delaware chapter received a Penn State Alumni Association award for their student interaction. When presenting the award, the Alumni Association specifically noted the success of a student interaction event due to a Singing Lions performance. This is typical of the type of service the group has provided for more than a decade.
The Singing Lions, however, are at a critical turning point in their history. Their director of 14 years has retired and the music department has yet to commit to searching for or even providing funding for his replacement. We believe the show must go on, but we need your help. You can help keep the music playing by writing letters or email expressing your support for the group and concern about their possible demise to the following individuals:
Anne Riley, President Fax: (814) 865-332 |
Dr. Graham Spanier, President Email gspanier@psu.edu |
Dr. Richard Green, Director Email: rgreen@psu.edu |
Diane Ryan, Executive Director Email dryan@psu.edu |
Please let us know you have shown support on behalf of your alumni chapter by sending us a quick note at the address above or via email to t.j.hall@worldnet.att.net. As the fall semester is quickly approaching, this is becoming an urgent matter. Thank you for your support.
For the Glory and with Deep Appreciation from Singing Lions Past, Present, and Future,
Tim Hall '92 & Courtney Hall '89,'91
